Restylane

Say Goodbye to Facial Wrinkles & Folds

Restylane is a popular family of dermal fillers used in the treatment of wrinkles. It may be exactly what you need to decrease the appearance of facial wrinkles and folds, laugh lines, and sunken cheeks. Continue reading to learn how each member of this family can address your skin troubles and enhance your beauty.

But first, let’s dig deeper into what exactly Restylane is and how it works.

Made from Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a molecule that has the special ability to retain water. A hyaluronic acid molecule can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water.

Unfortunately, your skin’s moisture balance is affected by the aging process and environment aggressors. Its ability to produce lipids decreases, affecting hyaluronic acid and collagen production.

The Restylane treatment injects hyaluronic acid gel into your skin, which then expands to fill in wrinkles, folds, and also sunken areas of your face. It also brings extra moisture to your skin’s surface, making it supple and radiant. By revitalizing your skin’s outer surfaces, Restylane can quickly provide a smooth, soft appearance to your skin.

Comparison with Juvederm

Restylane is a granular gel while Juvéderm is a smooth gel. The former tends to stay in place and the other diffuses easily into tissues. For this reason, Restylane is well-suited when skin-plumping, filling up small hollow areas, and facial contouring are needed. Juvéderm adds volume to various areas of the face and temporarily replaces lost volume beneath the surface.

Generally, Restylane is recommended to smooth out deep wrinkles, fine lines, laugh lines, enhance lips, contour the chin and nose, and plump up the cheek area. It is comparable to Juvéderm Ultra and thinner than Juvéderm Ultra Plus, which are ideal for correcting medium depth wrinkles and volumizing the lips.

Both Juvéderm and Restylane are safe and effective dermal fillers. The choice of treatment will depend on your specific skin requirements. Our trained aesthetic professional can review your needs and suggest the right solution.

Restylane FAQs

Do you need a skin test before a Restylane treatment?
As the product does not contain any animal-derived ingredient, a skin test is not required.

How much Restylane do you need?
The amount of Restylane you need depends on factors such as your age, depth of wrinkles, and treatment areas. The recommended course for Restylane is one to two treatments per year. One Restylane injection is good for 4 to 12 months, based on how quickly your body breaks it down. Usually, you need less Restylane in your second session and smaller doses as well as less maintenance over time.

What does the treatment involve?
The area to be treated is first disinfected. A precise amount of Restylane fillers are injected into the layers beneath the skin using an ultrafine needle. If used for the lips, the gel is administered using a cannula.

Is the treatment painful?
You may experience only mild discomfort. Many Restylane products contain the anesthetic lidocaine to enhance comfort during treatment.

How long does the treatment take?
You can expect your session to take between 10 and 30 minutes.

How soon can you see results?
Final results are evident 1 to 2 weeks after the treatment. This is when swelling and bruising (if any) will have subsided.

Does Restylane have side-effects?
Side-effects are minimal and go away soon. They include swelling, bruising, redness, and some tenderness in the treated areas. To lower your risk of bruising, apply ice packs to the treated areas for 1 to 2 days, and avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and St. John’s Wort a week before your treatment.

Can you apply make-up soon after the treatment?
If you must wear make-up for work or other commitments, avoid heavy application and cover-up bruises lightly with a yellow-toned concealer.

Is Restylane safe for pregnant women?
Restylane is not advised for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Should you use Restylane if you have allergies?
Restylane has trace amounts of gram-positive proteins. If you have a history of severe allergies, particularly to gram-positive bacteria, Restylane is best avoided.
